DEPARTMENT OF DANCE

In the very infant stage of the Manipur University of Culture, when the Manipur University of Culture Act, 2015 commenced on 25th August 2015, conceived the Department of Dance with tremendous contributions from various learned Scholars and Eminent Gurus in the particular field. In the course of time, the University started to function on 4th December 2015. During this time, fortunately, Dance was among the other Disciples which was consider to open its course in the University, formally, the department of Dance, along with other departments was open in the presence of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, and Registrar on 20th September 2016 in the conference hall of the Govt. Dance College Imphal East.


Aim/ Objective:

The main objective of the department is to develop the students the sensible knowledge, techniques, elements etc. of dance especially Manipuri Dance and also to make the students more aware of the different dance forms in the global platform and acquire the knowledge of creativity in the field.

Scope:

The scope of the Department of Dance is as follows:-
1. To provide graduate and Post Graduate course in the field of Dance.
2. To conduct innovative research studies in the field of Dance with the guidance of Ph.D students.
3. To impart both theoretical as well as practical knowledge and skill in the field of Dance.

Course Offer

Department of Dance, Manipur University of Culture is offering 3yrs regular degree course in B.A. Dance. The said course is consisted of six semesters and the entire course provides the complete knowledge of different dance forms in Manipur, such as Lai- Haraoba Dance, Raasleela, Kabui Naga Dance, Mao dance, other Indian Classical dances etc. In the entire semesters, there are both theory and practical classes as the syllabus is designed in such a way that each and every unit or chapter is met with the required knowledge of dance forms. The narrative art form of Manipur and Pena are also included as a part of this course.
