MANIPUR UNIVERSITY OF CULTURE (MUC)
DEPARTMENT OF UMANGLAI HARAOBA
The Department of Umanglai Haraoba, Manipur University of Culture, Imphal was established in the year 2016 under the Manipur University of Culture Act, 2015, with an objective to develop the Umanglai culture to a higher level with proper academic standard. The Department started with Bachelor’s Degree in Umanglai Haraoba with 15 students for its first batch. The Department is planning to introduce Post graduate course on Umanglai Haraoba from the academic session 2020-2021 under choice based credit system which will lead to Doctorate and Post-Doctorate levels of study and Research. The course has been designed taking into account the significance of Umanglai Haraoba to the contemporary society and the developments observed in the field of Umanglai culture which is a multidisciplinary in nature. It is an attempt to analyse Umanglai Haraoba and its contents within broader comparative parameters. The curriculum is definitely going to be a concrete framework and both faculty and students would really be highly benefited by the content and approach.
Objective & Scopes :
The objectives and scopes of the department are:
1. To give the students an understanding on the basic theories and principles of Umanglai culture and to enable him/her to understand the significance of it to the contemporary society and the developments observed in the field.
2. To train the students on the theoretical and the moving philosophy of the art form and the aspects of the performance lie within the culture in context.
3. To acquaint the student with the conservation, preservation, organisation, and promotion of the rich cultural heritage of Manipur with special reference to Umanglai culture.

5. To make the learners fully aware of various sources of information including electronic resources in the field and to familiarise the students with the basic research tools, techniques and methods in the field in an innovative way.
6. To prepare the students to handle the emerging and advancements in the modern scientific management of Cultural heritage to manage and serve the Umanglai culture for sustainable development.
7. To acquaint the student with the knowledge of applied culture like interpretation of cultural resources, marketing of cultural and heritage resources, investment in cultural heritage and its economic impacts, cultural informatics, cultural tourism ,etc. It is also aimed at the exploration and formation of cultural identities and cross cultural relations in the South-East Asian regions. Thus, the program objectives are stated in terms of student learning outcomes and reflects-
The curriculum of BULH is based on goals and objectives, and evolves in response to an on-going systematic planning process. With this general framework, the curriculum provides, through a variety of educational experiences, for the study of theory, principles, practice and values necessary for the provision of services in the functionaries and agencies of Umanglai Haraoba and in other context. The curriculum- i) provides direction for future development of the field, ii) promotes commitment to continuous professional growth, iii) responds to the needs of the rapidly changing global society etc.
Course Offer
Bachelor of Umanglai Haraoba Master of Umanglai Haraoba (under process to start from the academic session 2020-2021 with choice based credit system)
Course contents of the Bachelor of Umanglai Haraoba:
1. The course shall be full time course of three years.
2. The course shall be divided into six examinations at the end of each semester.
3. The Course consists of 20 papers of total 2600 Marks distributing in Six Semesters.
